Young people in Japan are changing their place of work more often. Others choose to work in part-time jobs instead of in a full-time job. This is new in Japan. In the past, most Japanese workers stayed in one place of work all their lives.
There are two reasons for this new trend. The first is that there aren't enough full-time jobs for young people. The second reason is that many young people want to work shorter hours and have less stress. They are happy to have enough money to shop, play and save a little.
There is even a name for these people. They are called "freeters." The name comes from the English word "free" and a German word for "casual work." The Japanese government is worried that this trend will have a bad effect on the economy.
